Assumption students now utilize I Have A Plan Iowa to help ensure success in high school and beyond.  Features of this website include: charting high school courses, learning which college/career path is right for you, preparing for the ACT and SAT, applying for college admission, researching financial aid and scholarship options, and applying for State of Iowa scholarships and grants, all while tracking your activites online! Summer Tips for College Success

Is college for you? Students who are unsure what steps to take after high school can visit college.gov, a site intended to be the go-to source for information and resources about planning, preparing and paying for postsecondary education (such as 2- or 4-year colleges and universities, as well as vocational or career schools).

College Preparation Checklist - This checklist includes steps to get ready for college, as well as a brief introduction to federal student aid and the FAFSA process.

College Summer Programs

College Visits
View a complete list of 2012-2013 tours at www.college-visits.com. All tours are led and supervised by College Visits staff and high school counselors.  Participants choose school to visit. Visit the website for information on availability, upcoming trips, tour descriptions, comments from past tour participants, or registration material. 

University of Dubuque Preview Days: November 10, December 1, February 2, and March 2. To attend one of these Preview Days, please register online at www.dbq.edu or call 800-722-5583.

Central College Fall Event Visit Days:  Monday, November 12th, Friday – Saturday, November 2nd and 3rd – fall overnighter for seniors only.  For event information and to register check out www.central.edu/admission or call 641-628-7616.   

Western Illinois University-Quad City Campus: Fall Visit Day is scheduled for November 21st from 9:30 – 12:00.  Learn more at www.wiu.edu/qc.

Indian Hills Community College: Warrior Wednesday Visit Days, November 28th and December 12th.  Reserve your spot at 800.726.2585.  Visit their website at www.indianhills.edu.    

Ellsworth Community College – Panther Preview Days - Fall:  November 16th & December 7th.  Spring:  January 25th, February 22nd, March 15th and April 5th.  For more information visit their website at www.EllsworthCollege.com.

Northern Illinois University – Open House programs:  Friday, November 9, 2012 and Friday, March 29, 2013 – Junior Preview Day.  All events take place from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Homes Student Center.  For more information visit their website www.niu.edu/admissions/counselors.    

Virginia Military Institute – Open House Dates:  November 2-3, November 30 - December 1, February 15-16, March 22-23, April 12-13.  Register online at www.vmi.edu/openhouseregistration.

Northern Illinois University will be hosting an open house on Friday, November 9, 2012.  Register at www.openhouse.niu.edu.

Capri College is hosting a Career Day!  Tuesday, November 13th from 1-3 p.m.

Federal Student Aid
Funding Education Beyond High School: The Guide to Federal Student Aid is a comprehensive resource on student financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education. Grants, loans, and work-study are the three major forms of aid available through the Department's Federal Student Aid office. Funding Education Beyond High School tells you about the programs and how to apply for them.

  • The ACT is offered at Assumption in April of each year

Test Preparation

  • Each student has a personalized username and password that can be obtained from Student Services
  • Black Hawk College is offering an ACT Test Preparation courses facilitated by an instructor who will take students through a review of test day procedures, test taking tips, and content for the English, Math, Science, Readings, and Writing sections as well as calculator usage.
