Special Interest Organizations

Anime Club
Anime Club is a fun interest club that dives into the world of popular Asian culture. Club activites include reading manga, watching anime, debates involoving the anime industry, drawing, writing fan fiction, and learning Japanese. The club also takes trips to Asian restuarants and anime conventions.

Blood Drive Committee
Each year, two blood drives take place at Assumption: one in the fall and one in the spring. Students on the blood drive committee are responsible for organzing these events, from recruiting donors, to making sure students have enough cookies to eat and cleaning up after the drive is over.

Chess Club
Chess Club members are able to satisfy their thirst for competition through matches and tournaments, often taking place during homeroom. There is plenty of room for both avid chess players and beginners; the Chess Club to date keeps its competition within Assumption walls.

French Club
French Club is a social and cultural organization open to all French students at Assumption. Elected officers help the advisor plan activities, such as French dinner nights, field trips, and conversation table.

Mock Trial
Students interested in our country's legal system should participate in Mock Trial. Members take on the roles of lawyers and witnesses and present cases before a "judge" at the competitions. Weeks of preparation lead up to a single day, when the team is judged on its presentation as the prosecution and as the defense. The 2006 Mock Trial team earned second place at the regional competition and thus advanced to the state level.

SADD (Students Against Distructive Decisions)
SADD's mission is to provide students with the best prevention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, and other destructive decisions.

Science Club
As one of the school's largest organizations, Science Club is able to take on many projects throughout the year. Members recycle paper from each classroom, clean up a stretch of Kimberly Road as part of Highway Cleanup, participate in Scott County's water testing days, and much more. Each year, five students who have excelled in the sciences while at Assumption are invited to be members of the Science Bowl team. These players travel to Iowa State to compete in quiz-bowl style matches against other teams. The 2006 Science Bowl team set school precedent by advancing past the round-robin section and into bracket play after going undefeated in pool play.

Spanish Club
Students who enjoy learning Spanish in class should try Spanish Club. Members often dine at area restaurants, where they speak Spanish with the staff and with each other. Several other projects have been organized by Spanish Club, such as collecting gifts for Toys for Tots.
